Ballet
This classical dance class will feature barre and centre work. Proper placement, musicality, balance, functional flexibility, and poise will be foundational. Taught by our owner with over 20 years of teaching experience, we can assure that beginners to advanced dancers will be challenged appropriately in this class.
Attire: fitness attire or leotard/tights/ballet skirt. Ballet shoes. Hair in bun or pulled up.
Barre
”My arms are dead, but my soul is alive” - Amanda
It's all about the burn! Elevate your workout routine by working the whole body systematically with thoughtful alignment and energizing music. All body types and fitness levels can find their place in this class as weights, tension, and movements are highly customizable for each person.
Attire: workout attire, barefeet.
Equipment: low weights (2-4 lbs), small yoga ball, mat, exercise band. All provided in-studio.
Book Club
You've never experienced Book Club like this. Join us monthly-ish for an open dance opportunity for woman-identifying people with club lighting. Doors open at 6pm with a basic lesson for those who want to learn new moves. Bring your own beverage of choice. Dancers are encouraged to dress for a night out: sequins, fancy shoes, costumes, that outfit you used to wear clubbing college, whatever makes you feel good in your body.
Core Flex
“This feels so nourishing. It’s still a workout, but it feels like I’m doing good for my body” - Haley
Our most requested movements in one class. Begin with 30 minutes of core: targeting the transverse abdominals, obliques, and back. After our daily 1 minute plank, free the spine and muscles as we move through stretches designed to train and protect the muscles and ligaments. This class takes place on the mat, rarely moving above a lunge or kneel.
Attire: workout attire, bare feet or socks.
Hair: recommended in a braid or ponytail.
Equipment: mat, provided in-studio
Modern
An all-level movement class based on the techniques of Lester Horton and other dance masters such as Martha Graham and José Limon. Includes floor work, cardio movements across the floor, and choreography.
Attire: dance leotard or form-fitting layers; capris, barefeet or foot undies.
Tap
Feel the beat! Learn the basics of rhythm and technique to dance out your tap dreams. An upbeat, cardio filled class with lots of great music and fun rhythm exercises. Open level for all fitness and technical levels.
Attire: workout attire, socks/tights, tap shoes (we may have some you can borrow!)
Classes that have been on our schedule and may reappear:
Floor Barre
Ballet barre on your back! Gravity acts as an extra challenge as you tone and stretch those ballet muscles! This class is especially good for injuries, stretching, and those looking for low impact.
Attire: workout attire, barefeet/socks/ballet shoes.
Hair: recommended down or in a braid.
Equipment: mat
Jazz
It's not just jazz hands and isolations (though we love our isolations!). Musical Theater and classical jazz join in a technique-based class sure to inspire and challenge the beginner or experienced dancer.
Attire: workout attire, bare feet or dance shoes
Hair: recommended in a braid or ponytail
Pathways
Rejuvenation, emotional regulation, and new neuropathways? We've got that.
Pathways takes the 8 aspects of Anne Green Gilbert's Brain Dance and expands them into choreographed dances proven to awaken the brain and create new neuropathways. The addition of 2 more movement aspects round out the class into an emotionally regulating and deeply connected class.
If that's not enough, moving in community is just fun! Expect to feel welcomed and inspired in this class.
Attire: workout attire, barefeet/socks/dance shoes
Dance Flex
Dance meets weights! This class meshes jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop with a focus on musculature, stamina, and mobility.
Attire: workout attire, bare feet or dance shoes
Hair: recommended in a braid or ponytail
Glow
Question - What would happen if we took barre and combined it with a nightclub? Answer - Glow barre! This class brings the party, no alcohol needed. Paint your body and enter our glowing black lit studio for a full workout with a lot of energy! After 45 minutes of barre, we move into Pathways with choreographed movements to inspire!
Attire: workout attire (bright clothes encouraged), barefeet.
Equipment: low weights (2-4 lbs), small yoga ball, mat, exercise band. All provided in-studio.

Testimonials:
I go to Barre and Pathways classes at Durango Dance. I love Miriam’s teaching style. She gives very clear instruction, and watching her precise movements helps my grace and alignment. I have done a lot of yoga and many other physical exercises but as I aged my muscles were losing a lot of strength and definition. Going to Barre class twice a week has turned back my body clock at least 10 years! I feel so much better, stronger, better aligned, and my posture has improved throughout my day for my other activities. Not only has my strength increased, my energy level has also improved. I’ve started to add a running two times a week and I feel barre class makes running much easier. Thank you Durango Dance! - Alix
